Biography

Kara Dara was founded in 2000 by Andro Biswane and presents a new fresh sound and yet honoring the Afro Diasporian roots and culture.

The name Kara Dara is found in the ancient Yoruba language from Nigeria and means flower garden.

The Kara Dara philosophy: 'it's the different flowers that make the garden’.

Bandleader/guitarist Andro Biswane has collaborated over the past decades with artists like Toumani Diabate, Basekou Kouyate, Fra Fra Sound, Lester Bowie, David Murray, Karim Ziad Gnaoua Crossover Project, Billy Haynes (ex-bassist Tina Turner), Ray Appleton (former drummer John Coltrane).

The core members of Kara Dara are from Suriname descent but the origins of the other band members can be traced to Sene-Gambia, South America and the Caribbean Islands like Antilles and West-Indies.

After almost ten years of preparation Kara Dara has created a truly unique blend of sounds inspired by styles like Kawina, Winti and Kaseko from Surinam, Mbalax from Senegal, JuJu and Assiko from Nigeria, Afro-Mandingue from Mali, the Funky and spiritual music from USA and the various Caribean styles like Rumba, Bomba, Afoche and Pambiche.

Deep grooves will evoke you spirit, spectacular percussion and dance performance will fascinate you and the groovy Afro-Funk rhythms and melodies will make you sing and dance with joy.
